The subjects, enrolled in one of four different EFL classes at Osaka Prefecture University, read more than 8 graded readers containing a total of 70,000 words or more over a three-month period. Two different versions of the Michigan Test were used as a pretest and a posttest in order to measure the increase of the students\u0027 English proficiency. Results showed that in three out of the four classes, there was a significant gain in their test scores.
