Content analysis was used as the study methodology. Data were collected from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with 5 male nursing students before and after clinical training in Maternal Nursing. Five core categories were extracted before and after the clinical training, and one category was extracted afterwards. The five categories were as follows: fear of an accident happening and disturbance in learning, self efforts for adaptation for learning, effort for adaptation to the environmental mood, positive meaning caused by the student's gender, and checking the experience through his own feeling and reality. The one category extracted after the clinical training was a feeling of respect for life. These results indicate that: 1) Nursing course teachers have to listen carefully to male students about their feelings as well as female students; 2) It is essential for students to develop an empathic understanding for what they have never experienced, like pregnancy and childbirth; 3) Family-centered care, not only for mother and baby but also for husband or partner, is a core of an obstetric nursing unit; and 4) It is necessary to understand the differences of feelings between male and female students in clinical education of Maternal Nursing., 大阪府立看護大学医療技術短期大学部紀要. 2004, 9, p.1-7}, pages = {1--7}, title = {男子学生の母性看護実習に伴う経験}, volume = {9}, year = {2004} }
