 note = {application/pdf, The purpose of this study was to clarify dilemmas faced by nurses working at hospital wards for the elderly with physical restraints. A questionnaire was administered to nurses (n=1,929) working at 14 hospitals in the Kansai area. Valid responses were obtained from 1,683 of them (87.2%). Twenty items were developed to clarify and define the dilemmas of nurses. The reliability coefficient was 0.78. The result obtained by quantities and free-answer analysis was that nurses have a particular sense for the dilemmas of physical restraints regarding treatment, security, and decision making of the patients.
