Nine nurses working seven years or more in the wards where such patients have been hospitalized participated in the interview study. Nine categories were extracted from the analysis : professional orientation, enhancement of teamwork, education deep-rooted in the clinical field, grasp of the characteristics of the patients, skills of crisis avoidance, a process to gain patients'trust, cooperation with the key person of the patient, deepening the relationship with a patient, barriers to nursing practice. The results suggest that it is important to stick to a professional orientation.
