Mannich reaction of kojic acid with aliphatic amine was investigated, furthermore, it was [figure] found that kojic acid may react with acetoacetic ethyl ester under the condition of Pechman ring close reaction using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. By oxidation with nitric acid, methyl comenic acid was obtained at 0°, while kojic acid was cleaved to oxalic acid.
